Our Story

The Eye Shop History

How it Started For Carel

Carel grew up in Brakpan. He then went to study Optometry at the then Rand Afrikaans university. He worked at a practice in East Rand Mall for a year before he got the opportunity to come and work for Vorster and Blom optometrists.
After 2 years he bought the practice from the owners and has been running it since.

How it Started For Hanlie

Hanlie grew up in Witbank. She then went to Rand Afrikaans University to study Optometry. She worked for a practice in Witbank for one year when Marilize Le Roux offer her a partnership in Risseeeuw and van den Berg Optometrists. After 2 years Marilize moved to Pretoria and Hanlie bought Marilize’s shares.

Joining Forces

In 2016 Carel and Hanlie decided to join forces and change all of their practice’s names to Eye Shop.
They merged their practices in order to create a stronger brand which enabled them to be more recognisable amongst the eMalahleni/Mpumalanga community.

Choosing a Name

The name Eye Shop name was chosen as a familiar sounding identity which now means the general public is well informed about what we can do for them.

Where They Are

Carel is mostly based at the ePH Practice and the Klipfontein Checkers branch.
Hanlie practices mostly at the Reyno Ridge branch and Ogies.

Hanlie Marshall-LabuschagneOptometrist

Got her degree at RAU in 1998, worked most of her career in Secunda; has a passion for pediatric optometry. Has been at the Ogies branch for one year.
